This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Seventh International Workshop on Software Configuration Management, SCM-7, held in conjunction with the 1997 IEEE/CS International Conference on Software Engineering, ICSE'97, in Boston, MA, USA, in May 1997. The book presents 16 revised full papers selected from a total of 49 submissions. The papers are organized in sections on versioning models, reuse and system models, process aspects, distributed SCM, SCM on the Web, and industrial experience, This book competently reports the state of the art in software configuration management.

Die Ausrichtung von Unternehmen an den Bedürfnissen ihrer Kunden hat in den letzten Jahren sowohl in der wissenschaftlichen als auch in der praxisorientierten Diskussion viel Aufmerksamkeit erfahren. Insbesondere in wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten wurde allerdings recht häufig vernachlässigt, daß Unternehmen sich nicht gleichermaßen auf alle Kunden einstellen können. Vielmehr ist eine Fokussierung auf ausgewählte Kunden erforderlich. Vor diesem Hintergrund kommt der Untersuchung von Geschäftsbeziehungen zwischen Unternehmen und ihren wichtigsten Kunden (Key-Accounts) eine besondere Bedeutung zu. In der Praxis ist zu beobachten, daß das sogenannte Key-Account-Management Unternehmen vor signifikante Probleme stellt. Diese Probleme erstrecken sich von der Definition des Leistungsangebots flir Key-Accounts über die Auswahl geeigneter Key-Account-Manager bis hin zur unternehmensinternen Einbindung der Key-Account-Manager. Vor diesem Hinter­ grund kann der Arbeit von Herrn Jensen bescheinigt werden, daß sie ein hochgradig praxis­ relevantes Phänomen aufgreift. Hervorzuheben ist an der Arbeit von Herrn Jensen insbesondere ihr integrativer Charakter: Der Verfasser entwickelt eine Konzeptualisierung der Gestaltungsdimensionen des Key­ Account-Managements. Hierbei unterscheidet er zwischen Aktivitäten, Akteuren, Ressourcen und der Formalisierung. Dieser integrative Ansatz hebt sich von früheren Arbeiten auf diesem Gebiet deutlich ab, da sich diese Arbeiten nahezu ausnahmslos mit einzelnen Facetten des Key-Account-Managements befaßt haben.

The concept of processes is at the heart of software and systems engineering. Software process models integrate software engineering methods and techniques and are the basis for managing large-scale software and IT projects. High product quality routinely results from high process quality. Software process management deals with getting and maintaining control over processes and their evolution. Becoming acquainted with existing software process models is not enough, though. It is important to understand how to select, define, manage, deploy, evaluate, and systematically evolve software process models so that they suitably address the problems, applications, and environments to which they are applied. Providing basic knowledge for these important tasks is the main goal of this textbook. Münch and his co-authors aim at providing knowledge that enables readers to develop useful process models that are suitable for their own purposes. They start with the basic concepts. Subsequently, existing representative process models are introduced, followed by a description of how to create individual models and the necessary means for doing so (i.e., notations and tools). Lastly, different possible usage scenarios for process management are highlighted (e.g. process improvement and software process simulation). Their book is aimed at students and researchers working on software project management, software quality assurance, and software measurement; and at practitioners who are interested in process definition and management for developing, maintaining, and operating software-intensive systems and services.
